At university, Coulas majored in voice performance and minored in theater and foreign languages. At the graduate level he concentrated on operatic studies but continued to perform in various musical productions and television specials. In spite of his successful theatre work in the USA, Jeffrey decided to continue his classical voice training in Europe. However his multi-faceted talent as an actor was discovered again and he made his German language film debut in the French-German work 'Surprise Partie', an entrant at the prestigious Max-Orphuels Film Festival in Germany in 1997. This led to work as a commercial actor and model, in particular for Sony of Germany. Jeffrey Coulas has performed in various international musical theatre festivals in Germany, debut ing music especially composed for his lyric tenor voice, while still maintaining his connection to the concert and oratorio world, singing the works of Mozart, Saint-Saens, Rossini, Schumann and Britten. In 1999, making his opera debut in a special Gala for the Music Guild of Germany, Coulas proved his language expertise in German, Italian and French repertoire. He has received critical praise from many different International publications, including the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. Jeffrey Coulas has been a leading member of the Citygames 'improv' ensemble in Frankfurt/Main, Germany, since 2005, performing mainly in German.
Was simultaneous English speaker for German performances during the 'New Plays from Europe', festival at the State Theater of Wiesbaden, 17.-27 June 2010, including for his own translation of play-write Bettina Erasmy's 'Das Wollt Ihr Nicht Wirklich.Is a twice published literary translator: His translation of Bettina Erasmy's ' Das wollt Ihr Nicht Wirklich' from Suhrkamp Verlag (publisher), produced by the State Theater of Wiesbaden, was published on line by the Goethe Institute in 2011, as ' You really don't want that'. His translation of Edith Krispien's 'Morgen bin ich Millionaer,' was published by Heimdall Verlag in 2010, as 'Tomorrow I'll be a Millionaire'.Coulas, American born, is of Italian-Greek ancestry, based in Frankfurt am Main, Germany.Speaks fluent German, conversational French, fractured Italian, swears in Greek, and has linguistic accessoires in Polish, Russian, Croatian, Spanish, Yiddish and Hessisch.Has been performing as actor in the German language since 1995.His classically trained, lyric tenor voice is known internationally for its range, flexibility and versatility, successfully singing everything from Handel, Mozart, Rossini, Donizetti, Bizet, Verdi or Schubert to Rogers & Hammerstein, Porter, Gershwin, Duke Ellington, Bernstein, Webber and Sondheim.Is a vegetarian.Was tenor soloist for the entire Messiah, Parts I - III, with full orchestra in Albany, New York, in Dec. 2002. In spite of jet lag and suffering a severe bronchitis attack after the first two arias, Coulas recovered, and went on to receive a standing ovation along with his colleagues at the end of the concert.
